Newborn Sessions

Having a new baby is exciting, but can be exhausting at the same time and sometimes the first couple of weeks pass in a blur. I am here to capture those fleeting moments, so that when you find your feet, you can stop and breathe and relive every expression and every little detail of your tiny baby.

At Sharon O’Rourke Photography I specialise in newborn photography and capturing all your little one’s precious details when they are as tiny and sleepy as possible. Sessions are typically scheduled within the first 2 weeks because babies tend to sleep more during this time.

If first 2 weeks isn’t possible, I still try to accommodate newborn sessions up to 6 weeks.

My Working Process
FAQ
What should I consider when choosing a newborn photographer?
There are a couple of things you should consider when choosing a newborn photographer: The first would be that they are well experienced in working with newborns and have attended relevant training in the field. Safety should be of the utmost priority when choosing a newborn photographer, to ensure that they do not attempt poses or positions that may endanger your little one. Bear in mind that poses that babies can’t achieve naturally are done using professional image compositing techniques, so you should always ask your photographer about this should you have any doubts. The second thing would be to choose a newborn photographer who has a style that is in line with the look and feel you want to achieve from your newborn session. Look for consistency in their work, so you can rest assured that your photographs will look the same as those you see in their portfolios.
When should I book my newborn photography session?
Clients are advised to book their session around the time of their 20 week scan, however, you can book a newborn session at any time before your baby is born. Do note that booking your session earlier would increase your chances of securing a session. Once you have booked your session, we will reserve a window before and after the clients due date. Bookings can be made after babies arrival is availability allows.
When is the best time to do a newborn photo shoot?
The best time to photograph a newborn baby is between 14 to 21 days after birth when they are sleepier and less active. However, I will photograph newborns up to 6 weeks old.
What happens if I deliver early or late?
Don't worry if your baby is born early or late, I leave room before and after your estimate due date to accommodate early and late deliveries.
What should I do if my baby’s skin is peeling, they still have pressure marks on their eyes and they have baby acne on the day of the session?
All of the above are normal. You don't need to do anything, just come along to your session. While retaining your baby's perfect little details, I will edit any temporary skin imperfections, as requested by clients pre-session.
What should I bring to my newborn session?
All you need to bring is your baby's changing bag, with a couple of additional nappies, and their normal supply of milk. (I can supply hot water for heating bottles). You may not have had time for breakfast, so feel free to bring along snacks and drinks as required.
What should we wear to our session?
It is up to you what you wear for your session. However, I do advise clients to avoid bright colours and busy patterns as they can distract from the focus of the session, which is the people. Keep things simple, I generally only shoot from the waist up.
